I lost my Visual Effects function even though they are enabled in the Compiz Settings Manager. If I go to Appearances>Visual Effects tab and try to click on the last one, it grays out or dimms out and an error box tells me the Visual Effects cannot be enabled. I have installed the Simple Compiz Settings. What else can I do?

I assume you mean it did work correctly.

Linux is kind of difficult to diag. Might be easier to just reload the whole thing.

Guess you could run the live cd just to see if some hardware failed.
