Ok, i've recently bought a new graphics card from ebay, and it doesn't work in my computer, i sent it back to the guy and he said nothing was wrong with it, which leaves something wrong with my computer (unless of course he is lying).

Are these two compatible:

Motherboard

Graphics Card
BFG NVidia GeForce 8800GT OC2 512MB 8800 GT http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr88512gto...

I know the motherboard is PCI-e x16 compatible, but is there anything else that would stop it from working?

For the record when i stick the graphics card into the slot, it gives a beep code of 2 short, 1 long. Which shows a graphics card error OR motherboard issue.

Thanks for the help.

Oh, and my PSU is 600w so it has plenty of power.

Not necessarily. What is the make/model of that PSU? How many amps are on the +12v rail? Does it have multiple +12v or a single +12v? If it has multiple +12v, did you configure your devices so as to balance the +12v loading across the rails? Did you have the PCIe plug connected to the card?

@first reply, that wouldnt change anything between the card and motherboard? And if it did then its rather dodgy to do anyway.

@jam, it's just an ordinary 600w jeantech arctic power supply. None of the fancy rail stuff as far as i'm aware, atleast i haven't come across it on the box + in the book otherwise i would have looked it up to find out what's the difference. And ofcourse i have the thing plugged in to the card.

Hopefully it's not the powersupply as i've bought it new just a while ago.

It's not "fancy rail stuff", it's basic PSU design. You either have a unit with a single +12v rail or you have one with multiple +12v rails. If it has multiple rails, you have to be sure the loads are balanced or you'll end up overloading one rail while the others are underused & that can cause crashing & random reboots.

It doesn't matter that you "bought it new just a while ago"...if it's a poorly designed unit, it's a poorly designed unit.

And you didn't answer my question about the PCIe plug...are you sure it's connected to the video card?

Sorry if i sounded rude or anything in that post. Like i said i have a jeantech arctic 600w power supply, it had nothing about rails or i would have looked it up on the net to find out more.

And i did reply to that question, maybe not clearly enough. The power supply comes with a power cord that connects straight into the end of the graphics card, which i did. So it was all connected fine.

Sorry for not being that clear in my last reply. Thanks for the help.
