can a compaq be upgraded when I just have the case and memory? Or should I get a new board and sticks. Like a P4 and all? I will use it for online games. I'm going to get a new vid card for that as well. I got the system from a neighbor. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Do you know the model compaq? By "Just case and memory" do you mean with or without motherboard/cpu/powersupply. Just what components do you have?
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach him to fish and you feed him for life.

Many comcraps, and they are not called that for nothing, use special hardware. Yeah, yeah, I KNOW it "looks" the same.
Special memory, special power suppylies, etc. Be careful what you throw together.
If all you have is the case and memory (and I assume a "dead" motherboard?
I'd be startin' over.

We'll need the exact model number (should be a sticker on the top or back) and not just something like presario 4000. It could be something like "4090US" as compaq built hundred of different models in each series.

Well I have the 5722 model. I got mobo, memory, PS, and case. Everything else has been stirpped from it. I was wondering if it's an ATX size. Was thinking of getting a P4 mobo, cpu vid card. I am getting a new HD, cd-rom as well. I know that P4 mobo require own new PS. This compaq I got was from neighbor with a PIII. Looks like it was bought from Radio shack pre assembled. No help from HP/Compaq support. I want to use this for online gaming only. PIII 500MHZ with max memory, soon a new vid card. Plz advise.
