I have a compaq pc which is currently really annoying me, sometime's it boot's just fine, sometimes it hangs at the very beginning (i see the red compaq logo screen and a message saying press anykey for optional rom message's but pressing any keys doesn't work, and some times it says parity error 2, i have tried changing the RAM as i thought this might be the case, but this has not helped. It only boots properly if i leave it unplugged for a while then try again, is there anything anyone can suggest? Thanks in advance.

There might be "other potential causes" you could eliminate first but they don't seem relevant to the symptoms you describe.

It could be the motherboard, a bad card, a bad drive or something else.

Try reseating the motherboard power connector.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Thanks for your help, i seem to have it working again at the moment, just reloading the original drive image, i'll find another power supply just in case this problem continues.
