I have a compaq presario v2000 with a mobile AMD sempron processor. I'm sure u've heard all the horror stories about those laptops and how they overheat or just suddenly stop working. Well, mine did the same thing, one night while watching a dvd the laptop got very hot, and when i went to move it, it shut off. I'ts done this before. several times i've had to take it apart and clean out the fan/heatsink. I never put any thermal paste between the heatsink/cpu, but i wish i had now. now i've been playing around with the laptop taking it apart and checking to see if i can find what hardware component went bad. I don't know weather its a motherboard issue or if its a cpu issue. I honestly don't know if those components can be tested as everything is surface mounted except the CPU. I'm certain its a motherboard/processor problem but i don't know which. Is there anyway to test those or will i just have to replace one and then if that doesn't work replace the other? The motherboard w/o CPU on ebay runs around 70 bucks, not bad considering most of them come with a 2 month warranty. CPU's are a bit trickier, I have found 1 on ebay that had less power then the one i currently have for 1 dollar used, no warranty. Any help on this subject would be great. THANKS! :-/
