Tried to get into safe mode off F8 this does not work non of the safe modes or other modes on F8 worked just kept going back to start of loading or restarting. Have tried system recovery still no good.
Can get to recovery console have done full recovery also with recovery discs no change. Still get code purple. Have tried various answers on the net I.e using Shift&F10 cannot get command prompt. Going into Recovery console and using Alt+d opening box C:\minintsystem32>. All I get is unrecognised directory, path,or file.

As full recovery didn't help it is most likely a hardware fault, which could now be complicated by the recovery attempt.

Some easy things to try:

Turn off and unplug from domestic power. Hold the power off/on button in for at least 15 seconds (important) - this has been known to unstick looping.

Clean case vents, fan and CPU heat-sink.

Remove RAM sticks and clean edge connectors with a pencil rubber. Pop the sticks in and out a few times to ensure there is no oxide on the sockets themselves. If you have an add-on graphics card do the same with that.

Ensure all connectors are pushed firmly home.

Put humpty together again and see if this helps. You might have to repeat the full recovery operation.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

with XP you should be able to do a repair install which will redo the OS and preserve the files on the hard drive

Don't overlook the hard drive - it may have failed. You can test it with bootable CD containing maker's diagnostic software. The links are here:
