Comment: Model 1212EA There is a faulty laptop for sale and I'm thinking of buying it. The seller describes it as: "Selling My 2 Year old Compaq Presario Laptop. Was in 100% working condition untill last week????????? Now when you turn it on all that happens is the green power light flashes???" He has tried removing the battery and power for a minute then putting the battery back in and connecting the power and that didn't fix it. I have tried to research blinking power light problems on the internet and did come up with one possibility where perhaps the screen resolution is incorrect and you can try connecting it to a normal monitor and resetting the resolution. Does anybody have any other clues? I realise it's not much to go on... I'm just looking for ideas. Thanks Tracey Windows 98SE HP Pavillion Celeron 533MHz HDD 10GB + 4GB 64MB RAM Antiquated & Poor Quality Runs like a dream.

Reply: (edit)Hi Tracey, That's the sort of thing which can't really be diagnosed without hands on contact. Don't get you hopes up that it is a simple setting. Much more likely that a component has failed. Before you hand over any money, be sure to assume the worst. If it's a system board failure, you might find a replacement costs more than a brand new laptop.

Reply: (edit)Agree...it could be anything from a loose display cable to a bad display or mainboard. I'd treat it as a $25 parts machine; that's my best idea. Skip
