Specs: Windows Vista
When laptop is booted the screen goes black. Is this a common problem for the Presario CQ50 laptops? Do I need to replace a driver? Any info would be appreicated.

When you turn it on does anything at all show on the screen? You say it 'goes black' as if it showed something and then blanked out.

If it never showed anything you've got a hardware problem that can't be diagnosed here. If it shows something and then goes blank when the OS starts loading then it might be a driver issue. If that's the case try tapping F8 before the OS starts loading and choose 'safe mode' from the boot menu. Then see if it boots to the desktop.

The problem is on my parents laptop and I believe they did say there was an error message that flashed on the screen before it goes black. I did not have it when I posted my question, but I will take your advice and try the F8 when they bring the laptop to me tomarrow for Turkey day.

Thanks for the quick response will let you know the outcome.

enoy the weekend,
