i have this problem with my Compaq laptop, it is that when i use it on the battery, it doesn't 'act' right. it will randomly reset it self (usually after at least an hour of using it), it will do the same randomly whenever i put it into Standby mode (even after 5 minutes of battery operation), and the battery (1 year and 9 months old) doesnt seem to be holding as much of a charge as it did when i first bought it.
when it resets, it sometimes just shuts off altogether, or (more often) turns back on and boots Windows as if i had turned it on. this is scary because i twice left it in standby mode while in my laptop bag, and both times about 1.5 hours later i found it running with the cpu fan full blast and it was very hot, even the screen was warm to the touch.
whats even more is that i had this happen last year to the point that it wouldnt turn on at all, and i had to send the laptopout to Compaq for them to fix it. they said that they replaced the System Board and the Hard Drive. (they replaced the hard drive with a slower one, i dont know why but it is slower and slightly louder) now i fear that my system board will fail again. in about 2 months i am going to need this computer for school, and if it fails right before school starts then i am gonna be sh*t out of luck. btw it still has an extended warrenty till October of this year.
what i want to know is there is anything i can do? Should i try to call Compaq and try to get them to fix/replace it? should i just sell it (on craigslist) and for how much considering the warrenty? and if i do end up selling it whats a good laptop to buy? thanks in advance
PS: i dont think it is a Windows related problem, because i think this actually happened to me while running Linux once too.

If you have in under warranty then tell HP to fix it. You may have extended rights since they replaced it.
All these things are junk. I wouldn't trust one of them for more than I can spit. No company can afford to test anything anymore. I know there used to be quality but it cost a LOT.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

well, i was thinking about doing that, and now i will, but not until i am done backing up my hard drive, and right now that means burning about 6 dvd-r discs.
i know what you are saying, my freind has had trouble with his 6 month Toshiba, burning dvd's, and more recently with the screen hinges. He was looking for an upgrade from his/my ThinkPad 380z. that was a solid laptop. It's too bad that i cant really use it, like i did back when Win98 was my main OS. Just got too old.
if i end up buying a new(er) laptop, then are ThinkPads still good? Any companies i should definetly stay away from?
Also if i send it back to HP and they fix it, then should i keep it, or try to sell it and put cash towards a new laptop?
