I tried the Compaq/HP website: nothing, search engines: zilch, i hope someone can help me, the problem is that when i turn on the power all i get is a half moon icon (torturing me with it's evil grin) and the power meter on the display, not the monitor display the other display, they call it a "disqplay" (hurr?), and my actual monitor shows the black screen of death, anyway i guess this is supposed to indicate "sleep" mode, well i tried turning it off and on using the power button but i still get that silly moon, i remember i called support and they said they could help me once because it was out of warranty, i remember them telling me to use some sort of button combination, it worked,i thought i wrote it down, but being the fool that i am, i didn't, now they want to charge me 40 bucks, (i live in poverty so that's not going to happen anytime soon) so i tried all these crazy combinations, so many that i ran out of fingers, anyway i got so frustrated i just turned it off and left it alone for about 3 months, can you believe that! 3 friggin' months! sure i had a desktop, if you could call it that (pentium 166 16mb of ram)slower than the opposite of "the Flash", as soon as i'm getting a new computer i'm going to destroy it "Office Space" style, anyway i finally decide to mess with the laptop again and turn it on, to my utter amazement it actually turned on, i felt powerful for a moment, so about half an hour later i'm into a game of starcraft (well all i have is 32MB of RAM) and it just all of a sudden goes back into sleep mode, no warning no nothing, does anybody know how i can revive it without waiting 3 months? or the button combinations? thanks for reading all the way through, i'm just soooo mad, i had to tell a little bit of what i went through, i am forever grateful.

yes i've tried taking out the battery and just using the DC, same thing all i see is the moon and yes i found the patch for it on the compaq website but i can't install it, because i can't get into it,(i'm accessing the net with the pentium 166 desktop, i tried searching for the modem drivers for the laptop but if i really want it, i'll have to pay for it, i would prefer going online with the laptop but that is another problem that i've almost given up on) when i turn the power on there is no boot up just the moon icon so i can't get into the bios, the only way i can think of is to remove the bios battery, but the screw head i need to open it is the only one i'm missing (figures), the only other way, i think, are the button combinations and i think it was something with the windows start key, i don't know, thanks for your time.

there is no reset button, it's a laptop, i don't think it's a virus, because i haven't been online because i can't get the drivers for the modem, but that's another story, i think the boot sector is messed up, because i upgraded from win95 to win98se and i have to get the patch from compaq, but i can't install it unless i can wake it up from sleep mode, thanks again for being so nice, you guys and girls are so cool.
