Compaq laptop won't POST

Specs: Win7 ( Ubuntu 9.10), Athlon 5000+ / 3 GB DDR2
Hello, I have a Compaq Presario V3415LA. It's a rather oldish laptop as I bought it in 2008 but it hasn't given me a problem until now... This had happened a couple of times in the past but now it has exacerbated: I turn the laptop on, the leds light up, the fan spins, the hard drive's led flickers but I have no video and the machine won't do anything, no beeps, nothing. Previously I solved this by powering the machine off, taking out the battery, reinserting it again and it would come back to life. But now I have to try 15+ times and It would eventually turn on propperly. It is not a video problem as I have tried it with a separate monitor. I took out the RAM to try and get some beeps or life, but nothing. I have tried taking out the battery and pluging it in to no avail. I'll try taking out the HHD and see what it does. Any help will be appreciated. Oh! Once the laptop boots it works perfectly without a glitch and I haven't ever opened it, the only thing I did was to add some RAM a year and a half ago and it has never fallen or anything. Thanx in advance

Thanks for your reply. After searching for information I have learned that I'm another victim of the Nvidia defective mobile chipsets issue. I contacted HP's service via chat and they have accepted to repair my laptop even though it's one year and ten months old. Apparently they have created a repair oreder and they said they would contact me via phone within 72 hours. Something they have failed to do... Anyway I'll phone and see what happens but I'll probably buy another laptop (most likely Acer) and of course with a AMD ATi chipset, I'll never buy Nvidia or HP again
