Hi all,
I have been having a lot of trouble with my Compaq Presario 2700 laptop lately. For some reason, the fan has been running constantly and full speed. After running at full speed continuously for 15-20 minutes, the computer will turn off instantly, not power down normally.
Thinking it may have been a software/virus problem, I reformated the hard drive and reinstalled windows, but I am still experiencing the problem. I also cleaned all dust out of the case.
Any suggestions? I am out of ideas!

Had the same problem on a 2700 that was given to me. Would run 30 seconds and shut off. Took it comletely apart. The four nuts that hold the heat sink in place over the CPU had become detached from the Motherboad. Some small screws, nuts and washers from the hardware store, ones that reached all the way through the spacers and nuts solved the problem. Heat sink silicon obtained at Radio Shack is also needed. Now runs so cool that the fan almost never comes on.
Summary: The fan on my Compaq Presario 710 died. I have two questions: (1) Is there only one fan/heatsink for this laptop?; (2) What is the least expensive way to fix the problem? I found a fan/heatsink onli...
Summary: There is nothing you can do to fix that problem. The HP and Compaq desktop Pentium 4 and mobile Pentium 4 laptops all have loud cooling fan. Even though first time you turn on your system, the fan s...
