Solved Compaq Laptop Battery replacement problem..

November 17, 2011 at 00:03:52
Specs: XP, P4 1.8GHZ/ 1GB
I have an old HP Compaq NW8000 laptop which has a dead battery. The original HP battery reads "Series PPB004A", it's 14.4V, 4.4AH.
I bought a compatible battery which reads "Model 182281-001/190336-001. Fit Model NC6000/NC8000/NW8000", it's 10.8V, 4.8AH.
Can I put this in place of the original? Volts don't much.
Another problem is that replacement battery doesn't fit exactly in the battery bay. It has a little plastic "E" next to the battery connector which has to be cut in order to fit exactly.
Any advice is most welcome...

Hi Hitech, sounds like the replacement battery you have is the wrong one.
e.g. the difference in voltage is considerable

Would expect:-
voltage to be the same
watts to be the same or (better still) greater
fit in laptop

Would not choose one with a large number of cells or from another country.

Searching ebay uk for :- compaq battery PPB004A

Found 25 to choose from. Cheapest is not necessarily the best.

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
