Does anyone know how to access the BIOS setup on a Compaq deskpro 2000- about 1996?
There must be a simple way!!

To access the Compaq Utilities menu, complete the following
steps:
1. Turn on or restart the computer by pressing
Ctrl+Alt+Delete at the same time.
.Do not restart your computer using Ctrl+Alt+Delete while in
Windows. Instead, exit Windows then restart the computer.
2. When the F10 Setup message appears in the lower-right
corner of the screen, press the F10 key.
.If you do not press the F10 key while the message is displayed,
you must turn the computer off, then on again to access the utility.
3. Press Enter to bypass the title and welcome screens. The
Compaq Utilities menu appears.

Hello John,
Thanks for your reply, but I do not have any option to press F10 displayed on my screen. In fact, no option to enter the setup is displayed. All that appears on the screen is the RAM check in the top left-hand corner and the words "Compaq Deskpro 2000" in the bottom right-hand corner. Then it boots into Windows!.
Pressing F10 only gives me a keyboard error message
This is why I am stuck.Regards,
Bill

I have exactly the same problem with my other compaq deskpro (233mhz) I believe these computers do not have a bios and detect everything automatically :(

It does have a BIOS, but the setup utility to get to the BIOS is on the hard disk, usually in a small (4MB or so) partition on the beginning of the disk. Without that partition, you get no prompt to hit F10. Click drivers at www.compaq.com, select Compaq Drivers, click Deskpro Desktops under the Desktops heading, and then either select your model under Locate by Product, or under Locate by Category, select "ROMPaqs and System Software" for the OS, and "ROMPaqs/BIOS and Firmware" under Category. You may have to poke around a bit, but you are looking for something along the lines of "F10 Setup and Personal Computer Diagnostics" You will download a prog that will make boot disk(s) for you that will create this partition, and from then on, when you boot, you will have a chance to hit F10 to see the BIOS setup features you are accustomed to on other computers. If I recall correctly, this utility erases everything on your hard disk in order to create the partition so keep that in mind. Good luck.
