Comment: my computer will not power up.. .It gets about 1/2 a second of power than, cuts out..(the fans starts to spin) i tried some different psu's and they wont start it up either. sometimes the system just runs with no display signal or hd activity but powers off after about 10 seconds. i have a msi k8n neo2 mobo and psu is a hiper 480w.

Reply: (edit)Did you make any changes to it or did anything happen to it between the last time it worked OK and the first time it didn't? You may need to disconnect all the drives and remove all the cards except video to determine if any of those are causing the problem.

Reply: (edit)If your power supply has the 115/230 voltage switch, make sure it's in the correct position. Try removing and reinstalling the CPU and RAM. Make sure their slots are free of dust. Swap out the RAM if you can. The motherboard proabably has a 'clear cmos' jumper. Put it in the 'clear' position, turn on the computer for a few seconds, turn it off and put the jumper back in the standby position. That will clear all the settings, in case the problem may be an overclocked cpu or wrong graphics choice. If you made any changes with the jumpers on the motherboard, verify that they're in the correct position. If you removed and reinstalled the motherboard make sure it's not touching any metal except where it screws to the case. You may want to temporarily loosen those mounting screws to see if that makes any difference. If you can exclude everything except the motherboard and cpu then most likely one of those is the problem.

Reply: (edit)I think i might be late giving reply here. But i also got a similar problem.Got that when we were testing processor. The heat sink over the processor was not seated properly, and due to this the system powered up,fans started running, display came, but in 5-10 seconds,it powered off.Seated the heat sink properly and it started working fine. Hope your computer starts working.Best of luck. Anupam
