Hi all, i got a very perculiar problem with my PC which i hope most you tech guys would know.
After using my PC for the day, i turn it off go to sleep.....next day turn on, my WinXP Pro will hang and sometimes will just reboot before loading to desktop.
To get around this, the moment this thing happens, i immediately OFF my PC. Then turn it ON again.....now WInXP Pro will load normally.
I managed to replicate this problem successfully. It happens if i leave my PC off for about 1hr + or more. The only way to load normally is by turning off and turning on again immediately after turning it on. Example :
I leave my computer off for about 1hr ++. After that amount of time, i turn it ON. Before it loads into windows i turn it OFF. Now when i turn on my PC, Windows will load normally.Has anyone encountered this problem before or knows which hardware component is acting up? The only thing i changed was the video card and it comes with the same problem. I heard that PSU can cause such instabilities also.
PS: I went into CMOS and check the PSU is supplying 3.08V to my 3.3V devices. Is the ~0.2V difference enough to cause the problem? My friend had a similar mobo and his was supplying 3.28V.
My rig : 512 MB DDR (333) RAM, P4 Intel 2.4GHz. Gigabyte GA-8PE800 MOBO , 128MB DDR Abit Ti4200 GF4 Video card, Creative Audigy Sound card.
Sorry for the lengthly post, but hope any good guys out there can help me out cuz' i'm totally stumped by such a syndrome.
thanks!

i had this happen with an older machine, i changed the psu, pci cards, etc. to no avail. finally i replaced all of the ram, and so far it hasn't acted up yet. you might want to try swapping the ram if you have some available to borrow, or even just remove 1 stick at a time and try it for a few days to see if that corrects it. it could be the psu going out, that should be a little closer to 3.3 that 3.0. there may be a place you can adjust the core voltage, not sure on that however.
good luck
jeff
