comp turns off after a few sec

Specs: Windows XP
this morning i woke up and turnd on my computer, it was working fine with no problems. i turnd my comp off to go to work and when i came home i then put on a new heat sink and fan, it has some thermal paste on it to, anyway when i turnd it on it turnd off after a few seconds. some time later i managed to get into the bios and the te temprature in the bios kept going up till it hit 104c and turnd off so i got a desk fan and put it next to it and left it there and waited 5 min and turned it on agen but just keep getting the same problem it turns off after a few sec and if i get into the bios it just says the thing keeps getting hotter

whats wrong with old cooler? U didn't install the cooler correct or thermal paste was applied wrong. U need new thermal paste. U didn't list the system specs.

It may be overheating due to insufficient ventilation.
Please provide more info about newly attached heat sink..
