Alot of people leave them on all day and night. I don't think it will cause any harm, I turn mine off though, to save electricty, but turning it on and off may cause more wear and tear on the system then leaving it on, Windows likes to be restarted every couple of days it seems, termporary files and what not seem to bog everything down. Don't think leaving it on will cause any damage, but supposedly, there is a set number of hours something will work, but it will be far obsolete by the time anything will happen.

because windows is a bit rubbish at managing its memory you might find after a few days that you get errors like "not enough memory to launch application" even though you have a gig of ram and you're only trying to run notepad.

That's why it's sensible to reboot every 2-3 days. But you shouldn't do any physical damage by leaving your PC on as long as your system temps stay within normal range.

If you are going to leave your system on 24/7, you should definitely use `Standby' to save electricity and lessen hard drive wear and tear.

a little know fact is that it is better for win xp to be on most of the day rather than turning it off when your not using it. win xp does a few file management and hdd maintance when the pc is deemed to be 'idle', that is one of the reasons xp is a lot more stable then other os's. but haveing your comp on all day is not bad for your pc, i should know, my apt has 4 on all day and none of use have any problems with our comps. and true to what is stated above, turning the comp off and on is more hazardous than letting it run it's butt of, but yes let the monitor turn off after a while, or just turn it off when your not using it, hope this helps answer your question
