Comment:

I hae Windows 2000 on my computer, and want to get Windows 98 on it.

Using the boot floppy, the computer starts up, then it says "type the location of Command interpreter eg,. C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.com" or something like that.

What do I do?

If the HDD had Win2K on it, it's probably formatted as NTFS. Win98 cannot use the NTFS file system. Are you trying to create a dual boot or do you wanna wipe out Win2K & replace it with Win98? Regardless of which, if the current format is NTFS, you can't install Win98...the HDD will have to be wiped out & reformatted as FAT32.

Try another (Win98) bootdisk - that one may not be working - but sure, the assumption is that you intend to erase the drive and install Win98.

If that's the case, you'd want to remove the NTFS partition and create a DOS one - then format & install

If not, time to back up a bit and consider what you're trying to do

Hi, Command.Com is what it is asking for. If the drive is a correct BOOT drive Command.Com will be in the Root directory (Folder) and in the Windows folder of the boot drive. Tell it that it's at C:\Comamnd.com. If it's not there find it at C:\Windows\Command.com and move a copy to C:\. On the other hand if it had been in the root where it belongs you wouldn't have gotten the error.
Good Luck, Jim

From the win98 boot disk, you can run fdisk, delete the DOS partition and then create a new one. That kills w2k or whatever is on there.
If the boot floppy isn't working, search for madboot or the Ultimate Boot CD. Madboot creates a floppy.
