Com 1 won't load

I am having trouble on my Dell 8500 laptop getting Com1 to load. It shows up in Device Mangager (Windows XP) as not loaded with a "code error 10. Any ideas what is causing this? Chris Chrisw@one.net

Check again in Device Manager to see if the device is enabled. If under properties,the "disable in this hardware profile" box is checked,that would be the cause. Check to see if the Windows drivers are installed as well.

I've checked just about everything like this. Even deleted the port to get the system to reload it on startup....same problem??
