I have an Elitegroupd ECS K7S5A mainboard that has recently been hit by lighting. The power suppply and 56k modem was shot because of the lighting. Well the thing is, the board is still kicking, but for how long? I put a Duron 1000 Mhz CPU in it and it seems to work fine when it posts. But whent the board is cold, or been sitting for awhile, it is hard to get it to post. It will sit there and like restart itself for awhile and the it will finally post. When the board is warmed up, I can shut it down, and the restart the system just fine. No problem on the posting. What could be wrong? I have already checked everything else out, CPU, Video Card, Power Supply, etc. Could the board just be dieing slowly or can I save it? Maybe a BIOS update or something. Any suggestings welcomed. Or do I just run it until it dies, :)

I doubt that a BIOS update will fix your problem, especially if this only started happening after the lightning strike. Was the 56K modem an internal modem? I ask this because if the lightning managed to fry an internal component, then it is likely that it has done untold irrepairable damage to the mobo as well. So my advice would be to buy a new mobo, unless somone else has any other ideas.
