I have to turn the power on and off 3-4 times each time to get my pc to boot. after it boots, I receive this message:
CMOS/GPNV CHECKSUM BAD
PRESS F1 TO RUN SETUP
PRESS F2 TO LOAD DEFAULT VALUES

What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Try the simple approach first.

Check the cmos battery, it may not be holding its charge. If so the bios can lose some of its settings.

Good luck - keep us posted.

The best thing to do is to just enter the BIOS setup, load the BIOS optimized defaults, save the BIOS changes and exit.

On motherboards, resetting the CMOS often
will cause a CMOS checksum error message to appear until you enter the BIOS setup,
load the BIOS optimized defaults, save the BIOS changes and exit.

Hi,

I am suffering from the same problem. In addition I cannot enter the setup because the keyboard does not respond at all. It seems to be that the system finishes the keyboard controller initialization successfully but stops by the initalization of video interface (according to the D-Bracket 2 Diagnostic LEDs). I replaced the keyboard --> nothing changed, I replaced the video card --> nothing changed, I replaced the battery --> nothing changed!

Board: MS6398E (MSI 845E Max2 533MHz)
CPU: Celeron 1,7MHz

Does anybody have a clue? Thanks for the feedback.

I am having the exact same problem with a MSI 6380 motherboard...I just installed a brand new one and am getting the same stupid message. I am determined to resolve this, and if I figure anything out beyond what's posted here, I'll let you know ASAP.

Tymn
