I have locked myself out of my IBM Thinkpad 21M when I replaced the CMOS battery. When I start it now I get a black screen with a padlock. I never have password protected my Notebook. Anyone has any ideas?

I don't know anything about the bios on your laptop, however, on all normal mobo's that I've worked on, if you reset the bios, you will not have to put the password back in. To do this, either find the jumper to do it, or remove your cmos battery (you may have to remove the regular laptop battery as well) for about 1/2-1 hour, and it will reset it.
Hope this helps! -Mike

I am also having a hard time getting into my Thinkpad A22M. I replaced the CMOS battery and I am locked out. I get a black screen with a padlock. Is there any any way to get around this problem without replacing the chip or system board?
