Hi! I have a problem. My computer gives a message: "CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded. Warning! CPU has been changed, or INSERT key pressed. Please Enter CPU Speed CMOS Setup and Remember to save..." everytime I start it. I have changed a battery, but it didn't affect anything. I can go into set-up, change there something (date etc.), then save and work with computer as usually, even restart. But when I shut down the computer and then turn on again, the error message apears again. What could be gone wrong? If somebody have the expreance in solving this problem, please help me!
One of three things is happening. One, the battery or contacts are still NG. Two, you are not saving the changes properly. Three, the BIOS chip or file is defective. If this is the cause you MAY be able to flash the BIOS file. Even if the file is the same date as the one already installed. I would look at One and Two.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2969.html Copy killcmos program(downloaded from above link)to a boot disk and run from dos prompt. The old settings will be changed to default and may help start system.Of course you don't have to reload Windows to do this.Good luck.
