CMOS Checksum error

OS: N/A
CPU/Ram: Pentium MMX 233 MHz, 40 M
Comment:

I have an Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG. Whenever I start my computer after having it off for any longer than a minute the CPU will say "Pentium MMX 100 MHz" when it is at 233 MHz. After it detects devices it will say "CMOS Checksum Error - Loading Defaults, Type F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup". I enter setup every time and reset the CPU, the clock, and Serial Port 1. I then will save to CMOS and exit. When it restarts the CPU is back at 100 MHz and there is a message that a new CPU has been installed. I have to enter setup to put it back at 233 MHz, but the clock and serial port are still setup right. I save and exit setup and the computer will start up fine. However if the computer is off for longer than a minute it will do this over again. I don't want to do this every time. How can I fix this resetting.

P.S. I have changed the CMOS battery in hopes of fixing the problem.

tried a cmos reset too?
I know you say you replaced the battery, but make sure the new battery is within 10% of rated voltage. Also measure he battery with computer on and off. ensure it's not showing an unusual voltage drop in either case.

When all else fails beat the $%!* out of it!!!

How do I do any of that? The bios doesn't seem to have any way of detecting the voltage. Thanx.

Loading Setup defaults didn't help at all. I am guessing that is because when the computer came up with the checksum error it loaded defaults automatically. Would flashing an update to the bios help. Thanx.

The computer reacts the same without the battery, so there is a problem somewhere. Since this is a new battery I think the problem is elsewhere. How do I check the CPU/motherboard? And if there is a problem, how do I fix it?

Of course the computer will react to the battery removed in the same way, as a run down battery listen to the previos post get a NEW BATTERY, You can buy brand new batteries that are no good as a few on here might tell you

Also you reset bios by turning power off at wall ark hands on chassis to rid static move the small lug (jumper) forward one pin after a few seconds put back to where it was, do this with the battery(not) in place. Then the new battery that you went down the street to buy goes in .
