Subject: CMOS Checksum Error - no keyboard OS: Win XP Pro CPU/Ram: P3 800Mhz, 640Mb

Comment: After plugging my printer into my computer after tranfering it to university, my computer subseqeuntly switched itself off and now on every boot displays the message CMOS Checksum error - default loaded. Now, i have the option of pressing F1 to continue or press delete to enter the BIOS. However, my computer keyboard won't function - it simply won't respond. The caps, num and scroll lights all blink when the computer is turned on, but refuse to when the error message is displayed. I have replaced the battery and cleared the CMOS as previous posts have suggested. Short of replacing the motherboard, this has got me baffled!!! Any ideas?

Reply: (edit)Are you're sure you cleared CMOS & that the new battery is good? If so, you may somehow have a corrupted BIOS...how you can flash the BIOS without the keyboard is beyond me though. I'd try to clear CMOS again...make sure to unplug the power cord from the PSU 1st, then pull the battery...let it sit for a while just to be sure there's no residual charge left in the board that may hold the BIOS settings in memory. Then replace the battery & try to boot up again...

Reply: (edit)No, motherboard is Soyo SY-7VCA - and have checked with their manual on how to clear the CMOS and it said to pull the power cable from the motherboard - which i have done, but to no avail. I'm pretty sure the battery is good. i'm going to try with a different keyboard and see what happens!

Reply: (edit)you probably checked this........ but make sure the keyboard is plugged into the correct port. It's easy to switch them in the heat of battle.
