Hello, Quick question: Can you swap out a CMOS battery while the system is live, or is it necessary to power it down to swap out the battery? It's a server, that's why I'm asking. Thanks.

Turn off your PC and ground yourself first (ESD).

It's safer to swap it while the system is shut down. You shouldn't mess inside the system while it's on.
It's not the swaping of battery that will hurt the system, it's the posible static energy or your clumbsy hands touching something else (no offense there) :D
Anyway, you do not need the battey until you restart the system. Then you might just turn it off for 3 minutes, swap the battery, and then boot back. It's better to be safe then sorry!
GooD Luck!
