Hi everybody,

I am having this problem:

Whenever I startup my computer the following messages always shows before it boots:

"The firmware has detected that CMOS battery failure has occurred, press enter to continue." So, after pressing enter it boots up with no problem, but the time is not updated.

I have changed the CMOS battery twice already, yet the problem still persists. I'm at a loss. Can anybody kind me offer me a solution to my problem?

Is it the motherboard's fault or the battery holder?

I thank you in advance.

Be sure the new battery is not installed upside down. You can tell by examining the contacts. if install backward both contacts will be on the negative side.

If that is not the issue then it could be a contact problem. Remove the battery and gently bend the movable contact down in order to make better contact.

I have seen boards that have had this problem even when the contact and battery are good.

FYI, the battery only comes into play when ALL power to the computer is off. You evidently are using a power strip or the PSU switch to interrupt the power.

Normally, the settings are held because with ATX boards there is always power to parts of the board. This is done so that additional power on functions will work.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I will try your suggestion and in case of any further occurrence of the problem, I will rush back into this forum for help.

So, it might not have necessarily been the motherboard's fault is it then?
