Subject: cmos battery change error 161
OS: windows 98
CPU/Ram: IBM thinkpad/not sure

I changed the cmos battery and now it is giving me error 161 (dead battery) and error 163 (set bios time). I found these codes at IBM.com but did not find a solution. I cannot get past this no matter what I do on start up.
I have seen similar postings here but have not seen an answer that would work for me.
I am just working on the notebook for a freind so I am not sure of the ram.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you sure you didn't get the battery in upside down?
