Specs: OSS lion 10.7.3, 2Gb 667 MHz DDR2
Mac os 10.5 doesn't start, clicking sound while trying to boot, after disconnecting power and do a restart it works most of the time

Go here and click on the play buttons one at a time until you find the sound that your mac is making.

Back up your files first since it does sound like a hard drive that is going and a little protection will go a long way. Then run the hard disk diagnosis utility to test it or bring it in for service (Apple does not intend for you to service their machines yourself).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
