Subject: clicking computer,won't boot upOS: winxp proCPU/Ram: p3 |
Comment: recently my wife has experienced a bunch of problems with her Dell laptop. First its started to freeze up when she was shutting it down. We had to resort to unplugging the battery to get it off. Now, It won't boot to windows at all. It just make's this clicking noise and won't get past the bootup window from Dell. I can get into the bios but that is it. Sometimes it will keep clicking and turning itself off. Please Help! ray

Reply: (edit)Sounds very much like the hard disk hard given up. The clicking noise you hear is the head seek mechanism trying to sort itself out. The only solution is a new hard drive I am afraid and they can run expensive. I recently upgrades a Dell Laptop for somebody and a new 30Gb Hard drive cost £150.00 Stuart

Reply: (edit)That depends on how valuable the data is. If the disk cannot be started there is no easy way. You could send it to a company specialising in data recovery, but it can be very expensive. Stuart
