Subject: Cleaning Fans On Sony Vaio LaptopOS: XP professional w/ sp2CPU/Ram: amd 1200/ 256 ddr |
Comment: I have a Sony Vaio laptop, and lately it has been running really hot. It has gotten to where it will just shut down after running for awhile. Anyway, I bought a cooling pad that sits under it. Now the temperature sensor says that hard drive is running pretty cool (about 45 - 50 celsius), but the processor is still running very hot (around 70 - 73), so I'm still having problems. So now I want to take it apart so I can clean out all the dust and lint clogging the airways. The fans really aren't pushing much air out of the side vent so I think this will help a lot. My question is, are there any diagrams for disassembling this thing on the internet or has anybody done this on a Sony Vaio before? Any advice helpful.

Reply: (edit)There should be a compartment on the back which you open with a small screwdriver. Keep trying until you find the processor fan. The fan should come out easily and use a q tip to clean the dust off. Make sure to get dust out of teeth on the heatsink. I usually dip my qtip in some rubbing alchol to clean with. Hope that helped you somewhat..... Windows: Just another pane in the glass

Reply: (edit)Hi if its a model 'pcg-4c4p' dont even attempt to open it doesnt actually come apart easily, take it to a laptop repair company for a spring clean. all i wanted to do was replace the hdd what a nightmare lol, see all those ribbon cables... if you can get so far i would suggest a gentle blast with a aircan from pc cleaner supplies. http://www.cs.bath.ac.uk/~jpc/vaio/
