OS: Mac G3

Comment:

I had purchased 3 years ago from a high school's silent auction 4 mac computers, one of them being a G3 with 8.5.1 OS on it. Well the whole idea of getting these each for a penny was to reformat them and give them to kids who needs computers that can't afford them. Well here I am still with no CDs to reformat these and there is confidential information on these computers. When I call the school they said that if I bring them in they will throw out the information, really I just want a clean hard drive with what comes on the computer straight off the factory line, but they refused to give me the disks. I was wondering if there is any way of making a reformat disk from the computer itself, like I know PCs do.. thanks..

I don't know much about macs, but from what I read, you need the restore disks from mac to reinstall the os. Why don't you just let the school empty the data and donate them like you wanted to 3 years ago.

You should inform the school that if the OS is still on the computers you have that they can't legally use those installation/restore disks.

I don't know how macs work but with OEM PCs the OS is linked to the computer and is only legally allowed to be used on the computer it came with.

I think OTH has a point, but try to explain that to the school. Maybe try posting your question in the MAC forum and see if you get any answers. Good Luck.
