Hi My computer crashed on me, so I booted from the Window XP disk....then I ran CHKDSK /R and it goes to 25% then it says..."The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems".
I was just wondering if this would just likely be a Windows problem that could be fixed by reinstalling or if it's more likely to be a hard drive problem. Or can you tell at all from a message like this?

It's probably a hard drive problem. However you can download a diagnostic from the hard drive manufacturer's web site to make another check. The manufacturer would probably ask you to do that anyway, if the drive is still under warranty.

I have found when there are CRC errors on a drive chkdsk/r may not be able to fix the errors but a full refomat may correct things. Run the diagnostics from the drive manufacturer first.
