A few companies on pricewatch.com are selling 680 watt Cheifmax power supplies for around $40 dollars. Does anyone have any information to confirm it's not really 680 watts? If not could someone recommend a good power supply, I'm looking for the most bang and less buck?

I usually buy Antec PSUs though cheaper PSUs are available.

That Thermaltake PSU I referenced above sure is cheap and Thermaltake has a very good reputation.

How much quality is in a power supply? If a cheap ps and exspensive ps are putting out the same voltage, why would you buy the exspensive ps? Both under warranty.

I have heard people that complain about power supplies being to noisy that would be understandible.

Also, How many watts do you think would be needed to run a 64bit pc?

I haven't picked out a motherboard yet

I'm just trying to get an idea. Soon as I pick the power supply and case out i will start looking at motherboards and processors.

I built a computer with an Athlon64 3200+, 1GB PC3200, and an ATI 9800 Pro. I power it with an Antec 430W PSU and it seems more than adequate.

Here is one calculator:
