i have a cheap Deer 400watt PSU that came with my computer. i wanna upgrade to a 2500+ and slap a 92mm vantec tornado on a zalman bracket for cooling. i already have 2 intakes and 2 exhaust fans not including the psu fan. would it be safe to run it with that many fans and a cheap PSU? ill prob have that setup for awhile then im thinking about later on replacing it with a Antec TruePower 480 and adding a top blowhole and side intake. but i dont have the money to do everything at once and was wondering if it would be ok to run that cheap powersupply until i can afford a better one? thanks

As you seem to be thinking of overclocking, because thats what the 2500 SCREAMS at the user, to overclock...you'll probably need a better power supply. What type of video card are you running? Anything over a FX5600/Radeon 9600 you should DEFINITELY get a new PSU. The Antec TruePower is a great power supply, nice choice.

What else are you planning on running is the question? Four-five-six fans will easily be powered by a 400watt psu, and a 2500 should be fine...but if you are playing any major games, you probably are getting/have a better video card.

I would recommend getting something like a Allied PSU, there's a 400some watt at newegg.com for around 30-40 bucks, should be good.....I'm getting a Chieftec Server Chassis with a Foxtron 420watt PSU, so I should be covered =)

Just go with what you have...if you run into probs, replace the PSU. Chances are, you'll be fine...fans use very little wattage...maybe 2 watts each?

More are not necessarily better though...a couple of them properly placed is better than 6 of them fighting each other. Personally, I have never found need to have more than 2 (plus the PSU)...& if you search thru some of the posts, you'll find many of them stating something like "I have 6 case fans & my CPU temp is still 58C...should I add more?"

You didn't mention what kinda temps you're getting, but you already have 4 fans plus the PSU, I doubt you'll need more. If you're unhappy with your temps, you may wanna experiment with the fan configuration & see if it helps. And be certain that your temp readings are accurate...it's not unusual for the readings to be off by several degrees & maybe as much as 10C in some instances.

i have a geforce 4 ti4600. right now i just wanna get the 2500+ and a vantec tornado on my heatsink, and just keep the 2 intakes and 2 exhausts for now. my temp right now is 38c on cpu, 25c motherboard. but my cpu can jack to as high as 48-50c full load. right now i just have the stock amd heatsink and fan, but i want to get like a zalman heatsink and the vantec on a zalman bracket to cool things down. i have a cheiftec server chassis so i got plenty of room to expand. is Allied as good as Antec PSU's?
