OS: XP Pro
CPU/Ram: 64 939 3200
Comment:

When i boot up my computer i get this error message:


BIOS ROM checksum error

Detecting floppy drive A media...
Drive A error. System halt


What could be the problem?

Bad Ram or defective BIOS. Run memtest to rule out RAM.

Probably a bad motherboard battery. They are very inexpensive.

A bad battery will not let you detect floppy, it will still boot up.

It should be bios corrupted, either from bad bios flash or bios chip going bad. You need to get the bios from your motherboard manufacturer and put the bios files (either award***.exe/***.bin or flash***.exe/***.rom, both with autoexec.bat) into a floppy and power on the system with the floppy inside. Don't turn off the power for the next 2 minutes as the bios flash will reboot by itself.
