"Cheat Sheet" For Drivers

Microsoft Windows xp professional w/sp2
October 12, 2011 at 16:46:53
Specs: Windows 7, 192MB
I have started a new entry level tech job and am really struggling with drivers...Please can somebody show me a link for a "cheat sheet" of the manufacturers that there are are for peripherals or devices with their corresponding driver download section? For example on my second day on the job I spent hours trying to download the correct driver for an ATI video card until the senior tech came over and downloaded from
AMD's website...telling me they were the same company.

In the past I've used driverguide.com but they want me to be able to download it directly from the manufacture.

This is just one of the things that I have to learn better Please help!

Thanks very much in advanced for anybody that comes forth with this information.

There is no "cheat sheet" for drives. There are just too many of them from too many manufactures.

Howerver, if you had put ATI drivers into Google it would have taken you directly to the AMD web site where is would have been abvious that ATI and AMD are connected in some way.

http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&suge...

You employers are being wise in insisting you download drivers from the manufacures. Driverguide.com is only for dummies and there is no guirantee you are getting the latest drivers..

I'd start at the computer makers site unless your company added in devices. (which is not the usual case)

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

Agreed, the best place to start is the system mfg's website, especially for motherboard drivers since they use customized versions of basic products, then component mfg's for most add ons, and for graphics cards, AMD and Nvidia are the correct choice. Avoid generic and 'complete' source sites since you can get incorrect or older versions.
Basically agreeing with advice already given. Your chart appears extensive, but I would avoid the more generic ones and go to the primary sources as you were advised.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
