Looking for a cheap video card (AGP), preferably with DVI though not necessary. Needs to support 1440 x 900 native res. for 19" widescreen... I found an MX440 w/ 64 mb ram and DVI for 22 shipped... will this card do this resolution (I believe it's made by MSI)

It would help if we knew what your plans are for it. But I believe the screen resolution(s) are more driver related than software related.

Sorry, I meant hardware related

sorry I should elaborate a bit.
I just need something for my boss's PC. Currently it has an intel 82815 integrated video- it claims to have 32mb of memory, but in reality this is only 10mb of shared RAM as far as I can tell. I updated the driver, ran and install powerstrip (custom resolution not available), still no dice.
I just need something that will let him run his 19" widescreen at native res (hence the 1440 x 900), he doesn't really care about color depth or 3D aspects, just something inexpensive (and no, the machine will never run vista, so that's not a consideration)
any insight is appreciated!

XFX Geforce 6200 AGP 4X/8X nvidia 256 MB DDR2 RAM low profile(for Book PC as well)model PV-T44A-WANG Ver F.3.It supports DirectX 9.0c, OpenGl 2.0 and Shaders 3.0.
The cost is about 60$ (on the web or in store)and is a very good buy to update from integrated video. The above specs mean you can even get a decent game experience from recent games like Oblivion,Doom 3,F.E.A.R etc..
It is a far better choice for about the same price than FX-5200 that used to be a cheap nvidia card before the programs suppliers stepped up the minimum standards for new and future software(particularly games).Good luck.

don't really care about any games at all... computer will probably be upgraded before too long (year or so) so i just need something cheap ($30 or less preferably) that will run in this resolution

You can probably go with a fanless card so there's no noise. 128MB/64-bit memory should be fine. DX8 or DX9 compatible. Here's a few suggestions:

If you don't mind the rebate hassle, here's a couple other suggestions:

Or if you're willing to take a chance, here's an 'open box' possibility:
