Hi,
I want to copy my music cassettes to my hard drive and I would like to know what is the most basic sound card that will do this. Bearing in mind I don't want to pay huge amounts of money.
If anyone could suggest a make maybe, I could buy on Ebay.

Thanks
androo

Any sound card with a line-in input will work. Here is one for $7.75 + 5.45 shipping.

You will also need the software to do the recording. Audacity is free and will work:

Doesn't your system have a sound card? Any will do and then like mentioned use Audacity or any freeware program for recording to the HD. You will just need a stereo cord that goes from your stereo out to your stereo in jack on the sound card.

The soundcard on my motherboard is built in and doesn't have a line-in output.

Sorry about the line in -output I meant Line in - input.
You were right, as I have looked in my manual and I have Line in, line out & mic.
I have managed to copy a small section of a cassette but when I play it back there is no sound.

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong ?

What program are you using? Do you have a mono or stereo cable? Stereo would have 2 black lines on the connector.

Hi,
All sorted.
I am using the latest Nero software. The problem was, that I had the line in muted just like you said.

Many Thanks
