Subject: Cheap (Low Cost) Parts!!OS: AnyCPU/Ram: Any |
Comment: Ok, I'm sure SOMEONE on this board is a PC tech, meaning, you fix PC's for a living, or on the side (like myself). My biggest thing that I do for people is clean OS re-installs, and memory upgrades. Here is my problem though - Every time I need to do a memory upgrade, I have to call around to: Circuit City, Best Buy, CompUSA, Costco, etc... to see who has the best deal going on with RAM. I hate doing that. Do any of you out there know where I can get parts, especially RAM, CHEAP with OUT having to buy minimums and what not? I want wholesale prices, without buying quantities. There's gotta be somewhere on the web that always has the best prices compared to the retail chains. If you know any local, walk in shops, I live in the Philadelphia, PA area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Reply: (edit)www.pricewatch.com I get ALL my parts there. however, it takes a few days for shipping and such. at best buy, circiut city, etc, etc. you dont have to wait. RMA for dead parts take time to. happy purchasing. before bying, check out resellerratings.com to see if there a good comp. newegg.com is pretty darn good.

Reply: (edit)I get all my stuff from newegg.com either that or local places like bestbuy or officedepot on their rebate sales my only problem with those places is that they are the devil lol newegg always has better prices than the local places but it does take a while for shipping so some of the excitement from buying is lost in the waiting the only time newegg doesnt beat places like bestbuy and circuit city is on the rebate sales and items that are large and or heavey thus requiring hefty shipping charges i once got a western digital 120gig harddrive at circuit city for $40! and the mail in rebates actually came! Ive also gotten a dvd burner for $18 at officemax.com but those mail in rebates havent come yet the bottom line is: if you want good deals you have to hunt for them look in your local sunday ads check pricewatch.com and slickdeals.net regularly and even these forums I got the link for the $18 dvd burner from jam on this site

Reply: (edit)If you would bring more business to your local shop you would get some decent pricing. I too build and support and have a few large OEM suppliers but when I need a few or small items I always go to the same local shop. After a while they give you a break as a fellow builder. They give me nearly what I pay from my OEM suppliers for pricing and I get it now. Jimi_l

Reply: (edit)Also the local computer flea markets are a good source for older memory types that are no longer installed in current setups, like EDO, PC66, PC100, Etc. Another advantage is older memory will most likely be of a lower density than current stuff and therefore more likely to be compatible in older systems. I use Newegg almost exclusively but also use Mwave.com. As was stated, you can't beat the local specials. If I am helping out someone with upgrades, or even a new build, I make them shag these specals and rebates. That is the best way. With mad dog optical drives you must register to get the rebate. Let to end user hassle with that.

Reply: (edit)One other point that you may find useful is to record all the model and serial #s before installing. I even place Harddrives in my copy machine to copy the entire label. Then make a folder for that machine.

Reply: (edit)giggles I have received more than one rebate from mad dog. Registering and applying for the rebate aren't the same thing. Are you sure you applied for the rebate? Go online to check the status of your rebate. The site will give you some kind of idea. If the check was mailed it will give the check # and date.

Reply: (edit)Newegg.com is probably the best place to get your parts, they have great prices, great quality, and great support :D I, too run my own PC shop.
