She might actually learn something by taking apart the old laptop, following directions she can find online and trying to diagnose the problem systematically and then reassembling it. She is unlikely going to be able to fix it, but the experience may be worth the money otherwise wasted by having to replace it anyway at this point and finally, she will be ten times less likely to mess the new one up with some foolish scheme in the future. She will learn to do some research, think the problem through, and learn from other people's mistakes, before jumping ahead to 'solve' her problem.|
