Changing Screen Resolution

January 5, 2009 at 21:09:39
Specs: Windows Vista64, AMD TurionX2 64/4GB
Ive been playing a lot of games on my computer lately and I have them set to use the entire screen when I play, however when I have AIM running everytime I get an IM it pulls me out of the game and changes the resolution back to the desktop settings, since this happens failry often, like 100 times a day >:0 I am worried that it may damage my video card or my GPU, or possibly even my monitor, can this damage any of these components or not?
How exactly does the resolution on the computer change? Does the video card reboot its driver?

I haven't run windows for awhile and, never ran vista but isn't it possible to right click on an icon & choose the resolution you want the program to run in.
