Subject: Changing MB and Graphics
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: Athlon 1GHz 512Mb
Comment:

Current configuration: (working fine)
MB - GA-7ZM
CPU - 1Ghz Athlon
RAM - 512MB SDRAM
Graphics - VooDoo 3
Audio - AC97 on board
O/S - XP Pro

Heres the problem. To give myself some headroom expansion wise, I wanted to change the MB. The new one is ASRock K7VT2. I swapped the CPU and installed the board. On power up, the drive lights do their thing then all is quiet. Nothing on screen, no beeps, no POST. I swapped every thing back, no problems.
Someone sugested that I try changing the grphics card as well. A Gforce 2 dropped from the sky so I thought I'd give it a go.
The PC was rebuilt with the new MB and Gforce 2. Same result, black screen, no POST.
Then I thought I'd try the old set up with the Gforce 2. Still no joy. Same result.
Heres what I know:
My CPU is fine. I'm using it now.
The Gforce 2 is fine. It works in another setup (Athlon 1.1, 256 Mb, Win98)
The MB is new so I'm making the assumption....

??I the MB is DOA why won't the GForce 2 work in my old setup??

Any Ideas please give me a shout.

Thanks
Robby

just built a system with the ASRock K7VM2 board, check that the FSB jumper is correct for your CPU. in my case, I am using a Duron 1300 for which the jumper needs to be set to 100 mhz, it was preset to 133 mhz. result was no screen image, all fans running until this was done. called the shop where I bought the board, described my problem, they did not offer any solution, took it in there, first thing the guy did when I got there was to flip the jumper, no further problems. not sure why this could not have been offered over the phone. oh well, Al

Thanks for the pointer Al. I've checked the FSB setting on my existing set up and it is 100Mhz. The new mobo is indeed set to 133Mhz.
I'll give this a go but I'm still puzzelled as to why the Gforce 2 won't work with the existing set up. Any Ideas on this?.
