changing hd for laptop

Specs: windows vista, intel t5450/4g ram
i'm trying to change the hard drive in my toshiba satellite p205 s6347, the drive i put in was a hitachi MN:HTS543216L9A300 / 160G
it apears that it wont recognize it at all, yet when i go into bios it states that it is on the computer. i tried installing windows but it claims i have no harddrive. any help would be good . i'm left with only 8 gigs on my current hard drive and this would be a big

Recheck ide cable and drive pins,
Re-check jumpers. Might have to remove jumper for m/s.
Some bio's have in other area a detection for drives. Might look for that even if first page says it is there.
Might have to reset bios. (I don't mean flash unless some 127G limit issue or chs limit which I doubt in your case)
Replace drive or test in other system even if desktop with adapter.
