Currently running Windows XP Home Edition with Gigabyte GA-7ZX
motherboard; 512 Ram 40GB Hard drive. I am trying to change my Matrox
Millenium PCI graphics card to a nVidia M64/32MB AGP card. When ever I
change the card and turn on the PC I get the continous bleeping noise; and
nothing appears on the monitor. I went into
Desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced>Adapterand removed drivers for Matrox.
Hoping when I restarted everything will be OK. I have also done some minor
changes in the BIOS. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong.

Thanks

Allan

In the BIOS there should be an option for you to use AGP graphic card or PCI graphic card.

I have changed that; I made the following alterations in Chipset Features Setup:-
AGP Mode - 4X
AGP Comp Driving - auto
AGP Aperture Size 64mb

I can't actually see anything to turn off the PCI graphic card; so I would image the above covers it. It appears to me that unless I am doing something wrong either the AGP card or the AGP slot is faulty.

I've experienced some graphic card problems that were strictly related to XP since XP is supposed to be able to run anything and everything from "standard" Windows, while actually performing or using the NT/2K kernel. I've also had scanner problems that were strictly related to XP because the hardware (retail box) did *NOT* have XP compatibility on it, and I bought the hardware anyway.

Well, a lot of times, going to the manufacturer website will provide you with XP specific drivers, even if the OS or the CD didn't. Every once in awhile you can get better drivers with Windows update too.

If you changed the bios to load AGP, and if you enabled the AGP slot (two separate procedures), followed by saving your cmos settings and rebooting, then your mobo should be set up correctly.

More than likely, it's a driver issue.

Hey Intel, AMD rulez!
