You can't change COM3 to COM2, but if your particular device supports it, you can configure it to use COM2 instead of COM3. This is usually done during the installation and driver setup of the device, but may also be possible to do through the device's operating software after installation.

However, not all devices support switching COM ports though. Very few devices use the COM ports (serial ports) these days, so perhaps you need to think about buying a similar device that doesn't need a serial port.

Hi Guyguy,

it might help if you described fully what you are attempting and the device(s) and computers involved.

For example, in the past, sometimes devices (e.g. modems) came preset for COM3. The thinking being that COM's 1 and 2 would already be in use. If the computer could not provide, the device's COM port could be changed through software or straps.
