Is it much of a chore to replace the lamp in a LCD monitor? Where would you likely find a lamp?

You need to explain this better as it does not make any sense. If you are saying you have a dead pixel, no. The whole LCD panel has to be replaced.

If you mean the backlighting bulb, it's a royal pain in the kazootinblat. It's a cold cathode bulb and besides being a pain to get the display open it has to be the same bulb. Besides you can get the crap knocked out of you by the inverter. Besides the fact you void the warranty. Send it in to be serviced by the maker of the monitor.
I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...

Thanks setishock. You are right, it looks like it would be a real pain to get the thing replaced. It is out of warranty and it looks like the backlight is a few bucks, so I'll just replace the whole monitor and recycle the old one.
