so im building my friend's system. its a asus a8n-sli with a amd 64 3500 and two 512 DDR433s. when i wanted to install windows it would freeze constantly. so i used my system to install windows on his hDD to see how it would perform in windows. still freezes. if i take MY DDR400s and put them in his system, no freezing. in the bios for Max Memclock theres like DDR200 and something else and something else and DDR400, but no DDR433. in the manual it says there infact IS an option for DDR 433 and a whole bunch of higher options. its on auto now. how do i get the option to select DDR433s so he can use his RAM with his computer.

thanx for any help.

Did you try his RAM in your PC? Did you test his RAM with memtest86?

when i put his RAM in my computer.. when it gets to windows, it hangs and then reboots. and repeat. im not going to test with memtest86 because i don't really trust this program. last time i had a memory crisis memtest came up with errors when in fact the chip was perfectly fine when tested professionally. so testing this would give me no conclusion in my eyes.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I've contacted Kingston & PNY before when I was having problems with their RAM & guess what one of their suggestions was? Run memtest86 & get back to us with the results. And if it's such an unreliable program, I wonder why DFI actually built memtest86 into the BIOS on several of their boards?

You obviously have a RAM problem...the DDR433 won't run on his board & it won't run on your board. You really don't even need to test it...it's bad.

Hi
Jams advice is sound , memtest your friends Ram in your pc as a test, 1 stick at a time, one may be the culprit, ( i know unlikey but not impossible its both sticks.) even leave 1 stick of your own in channel1 and test his 1 at a time.

I would also check bios cpu & ram voltages, reset cmos, dont run the aggressive/optimal setting, & use auto for cas/ras T, i had an issue with some corsair which reported as bad,[a very long story later & 3 psu's on investigation it was the tat psu's which just didnt have the beans, the only way i found out was yep in another pc. wish i done it first]

what graphics card is in your friends pc?

pure process of elimination.
you will find it.
