Whats the difference in celeron processors verses intel or amd. Celeron is much cheaper. Im about to invest in a cpu so i thought i would ask. If anyone knows where i can get a cpu (a 2.4 is about what im looking for but nothing less than a 2.0)please let me know. cheaper the better.

Cellerons are made by Intel; they are part of the Grand Scheme to Confuse Customers (They couldn't say 586, they had to say Pentium)

I think there's one compatable with the Pentium 3 and one with the 4 (And maybe with the 2?)

Anyway, think of them as Pentiums' little cousins.

Celereons are "crippled" Pentiums - marketed as a lower cost option. A 2 gig Celeron will perform less well than a 2 gig Pentium

Celeron is the poor mans Pentium. Both made by Intel.
People are divided into two camps.
people who love Intel and have been influenced by 'intel inside' advertising to think if its not Intel its no good.
&
people who recognise that there is another manufactuer: AMD , who do not have the same kind of advertising.
A lot of people will say that with AMD you get more for your money.
Everyone will argue forever about it.
It is probably true to say that for certain applications AMD is better choice and for certain applications Intel is better choice.
I am an AMD person myself

But a Penium 4 motherboard will not take an AMD! That's why he was asking about Celerons.

www.zipzoomfly.com>Seems to be the cheapest with heatsink and fan.You also must make sure your motherboard is compatable with the cpu.You mentioned AMD,Celeron and Intel, which in a sense celeron and Intel are Intel.

GXI Man:
the original question also menioned AMD.
First sentance was:''Whats the difference in celeron processors verses intel or amd''
hence my mention of AMD.
The qusetion did not mention motherboards.
I was not trying to persuade an Intel person who only asked about Intel , towards AMD.

I do have a gigabyte mb GA-8iLFL. My board will hold a 478 processor with 400fsb. Either it be celeron or intel. for very light gaming and internet only. im assuming its safe to go with a celeron. not wanting to spend alot of money for such light applications.
